Flour, water, yeast, salt, and voilà! Magic. Add a great workout for your core and arms; I suggest listening to your favorite podcast while kneading the dough. These are the elements of this sourdough loaf, the most basic of bread wonders.
At least the first time taste it by itself, still quite warm, fragrant and steamy when you break it. For the most basic vegetarian experience, with butter, then a favorite jam. Make it a meal by adding a beautiful cheese, strands of rosemary (or other herb you like) and honey. Or, for a perfect vegan meal, try a ripe stone fruit, balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil. Play. French toast, melts, bread puddings, etc… Then serve it with a meal involving a great classic French sauce such as beurre blanc, divine. You got the idea, your imagination is the limit. Have fun and let your mind guide you to your favorite bread happy place!
You can, as soon as the bread has reached room temperature, freeze it in a plastic bag. Thaw for an hour and reheat at 200˚ for 30 minutes.
