Apple Cinnamon Honey Tart
Lightly sweet these little slices of heaven go very well served alongside brunch or vanilla ice cream for dessert.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Thaw a sheet of puff pastry dough according to the directions on the package, usually 1/2 hour is enough, on a cookie sheet leaving the piece of parchment paper that comes in the package under it.
With a short sharp knife cut it in squares or rectangles about 3×3 or 2×4 inches and separate them slightly from each other.
Separate an egg, reserve the white to add to an egg dish later, place the yolk in a bowl and paint with a brush or your finger all 4 sides of each tart. Omit this step if you are making a vegan version.
1 apple will make 4 tarts. Do not peal the apple, quarter it, remove the center core and cut it into about 5 thin slices, place the slices in a fan shape on top of each tart. Sprinkle lightly with cinnamon from at least a foot above.
Bake the tarts for 22 to 26 minutes or until a good blond. Immediately plate the tarts and immediately drizzle with honey or agave syrup for vegan tarts. Serve immediately. If you must, reheat 10 minutes at 200 degrees.
WITH PORK OR CHICKEN OR A GREEN SALAD, add maybe a little favorite cheese or pine nuts, these tarts make a great side, simply omit the honey or agave syrup.
In another version of this tart I serve often at Yosemite Plaisance BnB alongside brunch, I omit the cinnamon and instead spread a little peach jam just after they come out of the oven. De-licious as my husband Ron’s Grandma use to say!!!
